Norman Woody Williams
September 6, 1936- July 21, 2013
Norman Woody Williams, "Stormin' Norman", Returned to be with his Lord God on Sunday, July 21st, 2013, after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Norman was born September 6th, 1936 in Surgoinsville, TN to John and Exie Williams. 1 of 10 children, Norman grew up in the hills of Tennessee. As a young man, Norm enjoyed a free life of running and hunting those hills. At 21 he joined the Army and spent 3 years in Germany. After his service to his country he returned to live in Boise, Idaho. There he met his wife to be, Barbara, and they soon married on November 11, 1961. They made their home in Boise, then Meridian where they raised three children. Norm supported his family by working as a mechanic at Larry Barnes Chevrolet for 11 years, then 3 years at Bob Rice Ford. Always having an interest in the service to his community, Norm was a volunteer firefighter for Cole-Collister Fire Department, then a volunteer police officer for Meridian. After putting in his time as a volunteer and continued education, Norm was delighted to accept a full time position as a Meridian City Police officer in 1976. This was his dream job and loved the adventures he had as a patrol officer. His children spent their high school years with Dad as the school resource officer at Meridian High School for 8 years, then finally settled at Meridian Middle School where he retired after 24 years of service to his community and the young people of Meridian.
Norm loved his job, he had rough times, had good times but the reward was a student who would thank him for being there for him or her. A former student approached Norm in church once and asked if he remembered him, "He walked right up to me and said thank you for being there when I needed someone." "He said I listened and Talked to him and helped change his life". This was the reward… a life changed.
We will miss your puttering Dad, your free car washes, your mountain manning and your Louis Lamore books. The garden will never be the same and the tomatoes will never taste as good. Heaven has gained a true hero. Ma and Pa are welcoming you to your eternal home with the Lord.
Thank you Dad for your love and guidance, you were a quiet man but always managed to let us know in one way or another how much we were loved. We will never forget our family camping trips and our big sand box behind the old garage. There are too many memories to list. The Grandchildren : Kirsten, Brandon, Amanda, Nathan, Haden, Brady, Logan, Caitlynn, Samantha and Travis. PAPA will be your guardian angel for all times. It was a gift to spend his last trip to his beloved mountains of Idaho with you.
