Alice Westfall Little, 81, of 1115 Springdale Road, widow of Jerry Wilbur Little, Jr., died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at her residence.
Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Wilbur Wood and Edna Howard Westfall. She was reared in Somerset, PA and later in Livermore, California. She graduated from San Jose State University in San Jose, CA and did graduate work at the University of Georgia. She worked with Anderson School District 5 for 30 years. In the 1960's, she helped in the development of special education services, particularly for speech and hearing needs, for the tri-county area. She was the coordinator of the Speech and Hearing Department of the district. She was also Teacher of the Year at Homeland Park Elementary School in 1989-1990.
Mrs. Little served on the board of the Anderson Easter Seals. She was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church, serving as an adult and children's Sunday school teacher, as one of the first women elders, and as President of the Women of the Church. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma in college. She served as an alumni advisor to the Clemson University chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma for many years. Mrs. Little was active in several other organizations in the Anderson area including the Anderson Junior Assembly and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Little of Anderson; a daughter, Susan Little Adkins and husband, Stephen of Marietta, GA; daughter-in-law, Melinda Little of Anderson; five grandchildren, Anna Little, Nathan Little, Mary Alice Adkins, Paul Adkins and Christine Adkins; sister, Audree Brickson and husband, Herbert of Herndon, VA; sister-in-law, Patricia Westfall of Yucca Valley, CA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emelyn and Bill Baker of Sacramento, CA; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Little of Anderson. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Reger Westfall.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. David J. Bailey and Rev. Allyson Helvie. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.
