Ursula Ann Holahan, 91, of Charleston, SC, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community in Charleston, South Carolina. She was born on Thursday, October 20, 1921, in Bronx, NY, to the late Florence Kelleher Holahan and the late Joseph Myles Holahan.
Ms. Holahan was a 1947 graduate of Cornell University and obtained her master's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1960. She worked for the Good Housekeeping Institute of New York City and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Service of New York State for 20 years. In the 1960's, she pioneered a live television program focused on homemaking skills. In 1969, she accepted a position as a Textile and Clothing Specialist with the Cooperative Extension Service at Clemson University. She retired from the Cooperative Extension Service in 1981.
Ms. Holahan was an avid tennis player and loved to ski. She enjoyed both sports well into her 70's. She also loved to travel. She traveled globally before and after retirement, including three months of volunteer work in Nepal.
Ms. Holahan was very active in the RCIA program for many years, both at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anderson, SC, and at the Nativity Catholic Church on James Island, SC.
Ms. Holahan is survived by nine nieces and nephews, 15 great-nieces and great-nephews, and five great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She is predeceased by her parents; a brother, Joseph M. Holahan, Jr. and his wife, Katherine; a sister, Audrey Holahan Stenson and her husband, Edward; and a nephew, Joseph M. Holahan, III.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 7, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community Chapel at 1873 Camp Road, Charleston, SC 29412. The family will receive friends one half hour before the service.
Burial will be on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 11a.m. at New Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, SC.
