Carl David Overman

89, Born on April 2, 1925 in Petroleum, Indiana, died on July 9, 2014 in Petaluma, California. Carl grew up in a farm family in Miami County and graduated from Clay Township High School in 1943. He served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 and was stationed first in Bainbridge, Maryland and ultimately in Shanghai, China with the U.S. Seventh Fleet. After earning a B.S. in business from Indiana University in 1949 and a J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in 1952, he practiced law in Indianapolis for the next 60 years. He and his wife Marjorie Merrill Overman lived in the Indianapolis area, attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church and were longtime members of Woodstock Country Club, The Traders Point Hunt and The University Club of Indianapolis. An avid horseman and skier, Carl particularly relished his many trips to Switzerland and Taos, New Mexico with family and friends. He is survived by daughter, Carol Overman and son-in-law Hap Rhodehamel of Petaluma, California; and son, Gregg Overman; daughter-in-law, Susan Overman; granddaughter, Erin Overman and grandson, Jon Overman of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by wife, Marjorie; and brothers, Byron and Basil. A private memorial service will be held in Indianapolis.
