Charles D. Griffin

89, Mooresville, died April 10, 2014, in Meadow Lakes, Mooresville. Mr. Griffin was born May 3, 1924, in Indianapolis, to the late Charles Singleton and Hazel (Hardin) Griffin. He graduated from Shortridge High School, Butler University, and later earned a Master's degree from the University of Illinois. Mr. Griffin proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for the Indiana State Department of Health for 36 years, retiring in 1986 as the Head of the Virology Department. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts as his sons were growing up and was also a member and past president of the Indianapolis Camera Club. An avid golfer, Mr. Griffin also enjoyed gardening, photography, and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Patterson Brown "Pat" Griffin; sister, Charlotte Ruth Hamilton. Survivors include his children, Gail Richards (Bob) of Indianapolis, James D. Griffin (Anna) of Avon, Bob Griffin (Nora) of Martinsville, and Janet Buckley (Bill) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Daniel Buckley (Kathy) , Samantha Mills (Brian); step grandchildren, Michelle Eagan (Kevin) and Iman Arafa; step great grandchild, Jessie Eagan. Calling hours will not be observed. A private family graveside service will be held in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, with military honors provided by the United States Army.
