Reverend Dr. Charles William Ballard
Was born in Evansville, IN, August 15, 1924 to the late Charles Curtis and Lorean Moore Ballard. He graduated from Central High School, and after 30 months in the South Pacific during World War II, returned to Evansville where he graduated from the University of Evansville. Charles entered Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary graduating in 1953; The University of Evansville awarded him an Honorary DD in 1964.
Upon returning to Indiana, Charles served churches in Spencer, Madison Trinity, New Albany Trinity, Indianapolis Irvington and Terre Haute Memorial, during which time he served two terms as a District Superintendent. He was active in the conference and its institutions.
A son, Franklin Fletcher Ballard of Indianapolis; sister, Janet Huff of Evansville; daughter-in-law, Rosie Watson Ballard; close family friend, Elizabeth Simmons; and caregiver and very special friend, Stephen Lewis, survives him. Charles' wife, Karleen of 62 years; and son, Charles "Chuck" Ballard, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. at Roberts Park United Methodist Church, 401 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis.
