Daniel Patrick Higgins

Dan passed away on April 5, 2014. He was born in Indianapolis on January 27, 1941 to Joseph and Edna (Werner) Higgins.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Uhrie); sister, Janet (Curtis) Dankert; son, David (Nicole) Higgins; daughters, Christine (Thomas) Decker and Kathleen (Shane) Rodems; grandchildren, Demi (Wesley) Formyduval, Deven, Grace, Isaac, Robert, Lillian; step-grandchildren, Zachary and Gabrielle; great-grandchildren, Maddox and Nolan. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edna and first wife, Barbara Duncan.

He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1958 and Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Business, with distinction in 1964 as a member of the International Honors Society, Beta Gamma Sigma. His career included District Sales Manager at Proctor and Gamble in St. Louis, National Sales Manager of EZ Paintr in Milwaukee and President of Dixon Paint and Brush in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He later retired from Lee & Associates of Indianapolis, as the Managing Director in 2009. While at Lee & Associates, Dan was a finalist for the 2005 Indiana Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Dan loved to play golf, read, volunteer, travel, play bridge, boat and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to Noon in Epworth United Methodist Church, 6450 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, followed by services at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd FL, Princeton, NJ 08540, autismspeaks.org or the Epworth United Methodist Church.
