Edna A. Burchett Obituary

Edna Adelaide Melton Burchett

Age 86 of Moss, Tennessee, was called to be with the Lord on August 10, 2012. She was born in the east end of Clay County, Tennessee, in 1926. Edna was the youngest of fifteen siblings and spent her formative years being influenced by her older brothers, sisters, parents, and the good folks who lived in the region. Upon graduation from high school, Edna attended Tennessee Tech and returned to Clay County where she taught school. She would later marry and moved to the Westside of Indianapolis in the 1960's and gained employment at NAPA Balkamp where she made many lifelong friends. She retired from Balkamp in 1990.

Edna instilled values into her two sons, James Anthony "Tony", and Jeffrey Thomas "Jeff" that they have carried with them throughout their adult lives.

Edna was an advocate of public education and supported the athletic programs at Indianapolis Washington High School. She believed in the values taught by the coaches, teachers, and administrators at Washington High School.

Her Westside home was an open door during the 1960's and 1970's where she welcomed Washington HS kids of all races; Edna simply saw character, not color.

Edna will always be remembered for her beautiful quilting skills, great cooking, and her loving, caring ways.

She leaves on this earth her sons, Tony (wife, Pam), and Jeff (wife, Julie), and her grandchildren whom she adored, Courtney, Cara, Ryder, Maggie, and Brock, and her beloved Bassett Hound, Nellie as well as her numerous extended relatives whom she cherished.

Special recognition is made to the St. Francis Hospice Center staff and all of Edna's neighbors, especially, Angie Farmer, who dedicated herself to Edna's care during her illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Upton Funeral Home, Celina Tennessee. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm CST and funeral services will start at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow after the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. Francis Hospice Center, 438 S. Emerson Avenue, Greenwood, Indiana 46143.
