Elizabeth "Betsy" Vaught Bhasker
54, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1959 in Indianapolis to Jack and Barbara Vaught. She was a 1977 graduate of Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, received her undergraduate degrees from Purdue University, and recently her master's degree in education from The Ohio State University. Most of Betsy's professional career has been in field of public education. She taught math in the Reynoldsburg City Schools, before moving to the Columbus City Schools as a teacher at Africentric High School. She has also worked with teacher professional development programs and school community partnerships within the Columbus City Schools. One of her areas of expertise has been Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. Betsy was also elected as a member of the Upper Arlington City Schools Board of Education in 1998. She served for four years and was the President of the Board in 2000. She had a giving spirit toward others, a creative mind, and many outside interests. She was an avid Columbus Blue Jackets fan, world traveler and gardener. Betsy was a loving and devoted mother to her son Sanjay and close friend to many. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and colleagues. In addition to her parents, Betsy is survived by her loving son, Sanjay; long-time love, Steve Phillips; brothers, Jay (Maureen) Vaught and Jim (Rae) Vaught; sister, Carol Vaught and six nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel , 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. Private family services will be held at a later date.
