Franklin Graham Kearney

90, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, after a two year battle with Alzheimer's. A time for visitation will be Wednesday, May 8th, at 11:00 a.m., held at St. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church, 5300 Old Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, FL 32792. The Funeral will then follow in the Chapel at 12:00 p.m. Franklin was born on July 27, 1922 to Oliver Graham Kearney and Ariel Gaily Kearney in Lisbon, Ohio. He graduated with top honors from the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ in 1940. He proceeded on to Yale University to study Engineering and graduated in three and half years to start officer training at the Naval Academy. When the destroyer escort, the Underhill, was struck by two Japanese suicide subs off southern Luzon on July 24, 1945, he was one of four officers that survived. After, World War II Franklin went to work for Eli Lilly, Inc. in August of 1946 where he met his beautiful bride of 64 years, Betty Jean Rose Kearney. He courted her for a year and they were married on June 19, 1948. They had three children, Carol Michele Kearney Wilson, Patrick Graham Kearney and Elizabeth Ann Kearney O'Brien. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Franklin Edward Wilson, Michele Elizabeth Wilson Cowley, and Michael Aberli O'Brien, along with two great-grandchildren, Paul Wilson and Timothy Wilson. Franklin retired from Eli Lilly as a Director in August 1984 after 38 years. He and Betty then settled in St. Petersburg, FL. In 1990 they purchased a house in Tuskawilla, Winter Springs, FL. Two years ago they moved to Winter Park Towers. Franklin enjoyed to play tennis, basketball, baseball, golf and to work crossword puzzles. He was a man with a strong faith in Catholicism. He always put his family first and was very kind and generous. He will be very deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
