Obituary Condolences

Gwen Ilene Hoberty

Join us in memory of Gwen Ilene Hoberty (11/4/1957 - 8/4/2014). Gwen sparked an interest in performing arts beginning with her appearance on Channel 13's 'Kindergarten College'. She continued that interest throughout high school playing Mr. Popper in Mr. Popper's Penguins and a smaller role in 'Guys and Dolls'. Gwen graduated from Pike High School in 1976. She was involved in theater, concert choir, National Honor Society, Student Council and was on the varsity tennis and track team.

Gwen went on to attend the University of Evansville, Indiana University and eventually graduated from IUPUI with a focus in Political Science.

She met her future husband, Gary Nibarger, and father of her only child Carma Rae Nibarger while serving in the US Navy.

In 1980 she backpacked across Europe traveling through Germany and France.

She volunteered reading to the seeing impaired, local libraries and animal rescue organizations. She was an avid sports fan and kept current with most local teams. She has an extensive collection of needlepoint, cross stitch, puzzles, art work and literary work. She enjoyed baking and frequently made cookies for her nieces and nephews. She was gifted in mathematics, often doing page-long equations for fun. She calculated the cost per cubic foot of natural gas was less economical, and converted her house to electric. She was an avid walker, racking up countless miles in neighborhoods and parks. Her favorite venue was Eagle Creek Park.
