James "Jim" Orville Smith
70, of Alva, Florida, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Dec. 6, 2013, with his wife Helen by his side; at Cape Coral Hospital, in Cape Coral, Florida.
He was co-founder and co-owner of Smith Brothers Builders and Supply. He worked in the home building and remodeling business for 50 plus years; starting in his teens with his brother co-owner Otho "Art" Smith. They began Smith Brothers Builders and Supply in Indianapolis where they built over 10,000 garages and room addition units; at the Madison Ave. and Harding St. locations.
Jim was a Master Mason at the Mystic Tie Lodge # 398 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #500 in Speedway, Indiana; and transferred to Moose Lodge on Palm Beach Blvd., in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1853 in Clewiston, Florida for over 30 years.
Jim and his brother Art were co-owners at Uncle Joe's Fish Camp in Moore Haven, Florida before retiring. Jim moved to Florida to enjoy fishing and any fishing hole around.
Survivors include his wife, Helen E. Mears Katz-Smith of Alva, Florida; his children, Shelia Smith of Montana, Beth Loveless of Indianapolis, IN, James Orville Smith Jr. of Bloomington, IN and Jason Smith of Indianapolis, IN; step-daughter, Lea Wallace of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and step-son, Lee Katz of Montana; his grandchildren, Paul Elliott, Heather Elliott, and Cody Elliott; step-grandchildren, Ashlee, Stephanie, and Spencer Wallace; a great grandchild, Jacy Elliott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Otho Arrie Smith Sr. and Clara E. (Evans) Smith; his brothers, Otho Arrie Smith, Jr. and Floyd Arthur Smith; daughter, Nancy Ann Smith; and step-son, Warren Elsbury.
Funeral Services will be held at G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home at 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Friday Dec. 13, 2013. Visitation will be held on Thursday Dec. 12, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and will include a Masonic service.
Following Friday's service a graveside service will be conducted at Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler, Indiana. Online condolences may be shared with the family at:
