Joan R.Gambs

90, of Noblesville IN, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Born in Columbus, OH on March 6, 1923, she attended Ohio State University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. In 1943 she married her high school sweetheart, the late John (Jack) R. Gambs. Three of their four children survive: John Gambs (Kathy) of Lafayette IN, Patricia Mac Innis (Dan) of Noblesville IN and Rosemary Lamberson (Mark) of Flagstaff, AZ. Former daughter-in-law, Sally Gambs of Indianapolis also survives.

In addition to her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by her son, David; two brothers, John and Michael Eberle of Columbus, OH.

Joan was adored by her eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was a woman who possessed a quiet, calming presence with a twinkle in her eye for fun. She gave the greatest gift of self confidence to her children and their children. Joan showed her love through her gift of cooking for family and friends. Her sense of humor was pure delight, prompting her family to intend to write a book of the witticisms that effortlessly rolled out of her. She, indeed, walked with grace through this life.

Joan was a past volunteer for Sunnyside in Indianapolis and Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. She was a choir member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and a member of the Silver Notes with the Extension Homemakers. In Greencastle, IN she managed the sorority house for the Delta Gammas at DePauw University. Joan worked as an interpretive guide at Conner Prairie for many years and later worked for the Accent Shop in Noblesville.

A private celebration of Joan's life will be held for the family. Interment will occur at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Columbus, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
