John David Shimer

66, of Carmel, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014. David was born on August 11, 1947 in Indianapolis to the late John Nelson and Mary Margaret Shimer. He was a graduate of Ball State University and received his Master's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. During the Vietnam Era, David enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1966. SSgt. Shimer served 4 years as an AF Communications Service electronics technician with tours in Grand Forks, ND and Naha, Okinawa

David was the director of training for Indiana Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association and the Indiana Propane Institute. He was a member of the American Legion and attended St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 13 in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, where family and friends are invited to gather from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

David is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Janie; sister, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Pagano; brothers, Bruce and Gary Shimer; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Walter Raines.
