John E. McShay
A native of Indianapolis who spent winters in Sarasota, Florida, died at the age of 82.
Mr. McShay, a graduate of Cathedral High School, attended Indiana University, receiving B.S. and M.B.A. degrees in 1953. Also while at IU he met and married his wife Mary Walz. He was employed by the General Electric Company in the Advertising and Public Relations Program, and worked at the Advertising Department in Schenectady, NY, from 1953 until 1957.
Upon returning to Indianapolis, he joined Curtiss, Quinlan, Keene & Peck, Inc., an advertising agency. After thirty-two years there he retired as Chairman of the Board in 1989. He, along with his clients, was the recipient of many national and regional awards for excellence including The Golden Mail Box from the DMAA, and the "Best of Ads" from the ABP.
In addition to being on the Board of Directors of Quinlan, Keene, Peck & McShay, Inc., he also served on the boards of many business and civic organizations including; The Advertising Club of Indianapolis, The Indiana Federation of Advertising Agencies, The Indiana Bank Marketing Association, The 500 Festival Committee, Highland Golf and Country Club, and The Junto of Indianapolis.
From 1957 until 1969, Mr. McShay was associated with, and taught courses in Management, Marketing and Advertising at the Evening Divisions of both Indiana and Butler Universities campuses in Indianapolis.
Mr. McShay was a life member of the American Legion Kenningston Post and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife, Mary Walz McShay; sons, Michael McShay, Jeffrey McShay (Kim) and Kevin McShay (Christine Behrens-McShay); granddaughters, Kelsey McShay, Mindy McShay Kissel and Colleen McShay; siblings, Mary Kay (McShay), Holland Stuhldreher (William), Maureen McShay Iverson (David) and Donald McShay (Ginny), and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded by parents, Edward and Margaret O'Neil McShay; brother, Jim McShay (Sue); son, Daniel McShay and brother-in-law, Dr. William Holland.
Family and Friends will gather on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 11:00am in St. Pius X Catholic Church.
