John J. Kennedy

85, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home June 1, 2014. He was born May 15, 1929 in Indianapolis to John Joseph and Dorothy Jones Kennedy.

Jack attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic grade school, Shortridge High School, Indiana University, and the University of Notre Dame. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His career began at Merchants National Bank and Trust Company. Later he became a realtor and worked for the O.J. Smith Realty Company. He then moved his employment to IUPUI where he worked in the Real Estate Land Acquisition Department responsible for expanding the downtown campus for the remainder of his career. After retirement, he was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years.

From travelling throughout the world, to relaxing at his Lake Wawasee cottage or simply watching sports on TV were things he enjoyed most. He always looked forward to monthly 'Club' with sisters-in-law Barbara Wynne and Janie Smith and brothers-in-law John Wynne and Pearson Smith. He loved spending Saturday evenings with good friends Judi Pearson and George Baker. Most of all, he relished just being home surrounded by his loving family.

Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy; his three children and their wives, Jay (Cathy), John Jr. (Vicki), and Bruce (Traci); nine grandchildren, Kristen, Patrick, Hannah, Grace, Allison, Julie, and Scott Kennedy, Stephanie and Tiffany Dove. Beloved Taffy will miss her master terribly.

Predeceasing Jack were his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Otis Hubbard; and daughter-in-law, Anne Ayres Kennedy.

The family wishes to thank Cardell Hobbs of Griswold Home Care for the wonderful tender care Jack received.

Visitation will be held at the Kennedy home Friday, June 6th from 5-7 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery Saturday, June 7th at 3:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions to Meals on Wheels (708 E. Michigan St, Indianapolis, IN 46202) or Wawasee Area Conservatory Foundation (P.O. Box 548, Syracuse, IN 46567) would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leppert Mortuary & Crematory, Nora Chapel .
