John K. Axelson

77, Carmel, died April 23, 2013. John was born in Chicago, IL March 7, 1936 to the late Karl Axel Siegfried Axelson and Corrine (Stelow) Axelson.

He graduated from the University of Georgia and obtained his Master's Degree from Johns Hopkins University. During the Cold War, he served in the US Army Intelligence.

His entire business life was spent in the property/casualty insurance industry. John, while on the east coast, served as Vice President of Claims for Erie Insurance. Seventeen years ago he retired from Monroe Guaranty as Vice President of Claims and opened his own business, J. Karl Services. He was a member of the Carmel Lions Club.

John is survived by his wife, of 28 years, Joyce; brother, Bill, Ridgefield, WA; son, Karl, Hampton Falls, NH; daughter, Ninette Dean, Washington, DC; step-children, Terri Moore, Kelly Gatton, and Dawn Dobbins of Carmel, Shelly Merkley of Greenfield; four step-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 p.m. in Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel , with calling hours from 11:00 a..m until time of service in the funeral home.
