John Robert "Jack" Engle

91, passed away May 2, 2012. He was born September 14, 1920 in Indianapolis, the son of John and Nelle Engle.

He is survived by his sister Mary Christman and eight children, Nan of Brazil, IN, Susan of San Mateo, CA, Mike of Little Rock, AK, John Jr., (Suzanne), Mary Jo, Tom, Barb (York) and David (Janet), of Indianapolis, along with 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many loving relatives and friends as well as all at American Village.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy Jonas Engle and his sisters Kathryn Porteous and Marge Davis.

Jack was a dedicated, lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Parish. He graduated from St. Joan of Arc and Shortridge High School. Jack was a freight agent for 40 years for B&O Railroad and after retiring he worked part time for National Car Rental. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and also served in the White House Honor Guard.

A Memorial Mass for Jack will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Saturday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at church at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 10:00 a.m. Inurment follows at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Washington Township Special Olympics or to St. Vincent Hospice.
