Obituary Condolences

John W. Esterline lll

Graduated Cum Laude from Park School in 1953, then graduated from Brown University in 1957 with a B.S. major in English and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After serving in the United States Army Reserve he continued his education with a B.A. Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Michigan. John had a 50 year career at Eagle Creek Nursery, where he served as president from 1976 to 2008 when he retired. He also was president of the Indianapolis Landscape Association in 1968. He was a member of Woodstock Club.

John was a man of immense charms, whose equally outsized love of life will be missed by all who knew and adored him. He will be remembered for his wit, his intellect, his kindness and most especially, the ever-present twinkle in his eye. He was the life of every party, whose fondness for entertaining and always-dapper demeanor evinced the importance he placed on living well. He loved Burberry, the great outdoors, fine food, and his many friends, especially Dr. Bradley Calobrace, Martin Horner, and Joe Schroeder.

He is survived by his sister, Jane Esterline Darmer, Indianapolis; his brother, Charles C. Esterline, (Nicole), Indianapolis; his sister-in-law, Katheryn M. Esterline, Indianapolis and 11 nieces and nephews and 37 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill Brown Esterline and Marion Cunningham Esterline; his brother, Thomas M. Esterline, Sr. and his brother-in-law, Robert A. Darmer.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with service beginning at 2 p.m. in Flanner and Buchanan - Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St. Zionsville, IN 46077. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers, doctors and nurses at Rush Hospital, Chicago, IL, especially Connie, Eden and Nelson. Memorial contributions in honor of John can be made to Park Tudor School, 7200 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46240.
