Margie Dean Shepherd

75, Indianapolis, passed away May 31, 2014 in her home, in the arms of her family after a long yet gracious journey with cancer. Despite her illness, Margie continued her way of life of having a servant's heart, always focusing on others' needs before her own. She was born April 15, 1939, in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of the late Dailey and Nancy Ada (Mercer) Turner. She married her high school sweetheart, James E. Shepherd on August 21, 1960. Their marriage was a lifelong partnership of devotion, love, and cherishing one another.

Margie received her bachelor's degree from Ball State Teacher's College and later her master's from Indiana University. She retired as a first grade teacher after 33 ½ years of dedication, 31 years at Brook Park Elementary School in Lawrence Township. She has maintained relationships with students, teachers, and administrators throughout these many years.

Margie was an active member of Northwood Christian Church for over 52 years serving in multiple capacities and ministries. She touched the lives of many as an elder, moderator, teacher, youth counselor, and women's small group leader. She was a member of the Castleton Sertoma Club serving in a number of leadership roles. Margie was also a 50 year member of the New Castle chapter #116 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed working puzzles, reading, and scrapbooking, yet her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of almost 54 years, James E. Shepherd; three children, Brad (Paula Britton) Shepherd, Lisa (Steve) Pearcy, Angela (John) Vittori; nine grandchildren, Sydney and Alex Shepherd, Jordan, Daniel, and Matthew Pearcy, and Benjamin, Anna, Claire, and Joel Vittori; two brothers, Ted (Glenda) Turner and Bob (Sue) Turner; sister-in-law, Linda Turner; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by two brothers, Ronnie Turner and George Ed Turner; and a sister, Imogene Turner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Northwood Christian Church, 4550 Central Avenue. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple , 1305 East Broad Ripple Avenue.
