Mauro Agnelneri

88, of Indianapolis, was born on April 11, 1926 to Tarquinio and Olga Agnelneri in Indianapolis. He graduated from Manual High School and Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering after serving his country in the Army Air Force. Mauro married his wife of 62 years, Leonora Guerinni on June 22, 1949, she preceded him in death on May 7, 2012.

Mauro went to work with W.A. Marshcke & Sons in 1949, supervising design and installation of crane systems and moved to the material handling division selling Clark Lift trucks in 1952. Over the next 17 years, Mauro rose to Vice President and purchased the company with his once competitor, now partner, Bill Branic in 1969. Their company, Clarklift of Indiana, was a top dealer for Clark Equipment and grew to 105 employees. Many will remember him for his methodical thought and fairness in business and of course his ever present cigars.

Mr. Agnelneri retired in 1991 and followed his passion for flying that he picked up in the early seventies. He owned five different planes during those years with his 1955 Navy trainer, a T-28 being his pride and joy. He put to work his mechanical engineering skills as he loved working on it, up to and including pulling the engine, as much as flying it. He went to many air shows over the years taking his plane and showing the younger generation what once was. He always had the attitude that "if you're going to do it, do it right", which he took literally to the grave with him. He and Leonora enjoyed travel and went to 36 countries including Russia, China, Egypt, through Southeast Asia and South America, and much of Europe visiting Italy and their family many times.

Mauro and Leonora had four boys, Mauro Jr. (d. Becky), Anthony, Vincent (Barbara) and David. He has three grandchildren, Jessica (Tyler) Franke, Tess (Austin) Thomas, and Alyssa Agnelneri; and two great grandchildren, Dalton and Olvia Thomas. He will be missed.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. Funeral mass will be held, Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at 1 p.m. in St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
