Richard "Dick" Sutton

81, Mooresville, passed away peacefully July 21, 2014. He was born June 10, 1933 in Junction City, Kansas to the late Daniel Nathaniel and Minnie (Honey) Sutton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Renihan); his sons, Stephen (Cynthia) Clephane, Charles "Chuck" (Anna) Clephane, Randy (Patty) Clephane, and Steve Sutton; daughters, Vickie Heckman and Patsy (Howie) Finecy; grandchildren, Melody (Brock) Sears, Derek (Sarah) Heckman, Zachary (Michelle) Clephane, Collin Clephane, Lindsey Clephane, Breanne Clephane and Taylor Johnson; great-grandchildren, Riley, Audrey and Eli Sears, Haley and Jack Clephane and Hannah Heckman; brother, David Sutton and sisters, Sally Lancaster and Kay Sheek. He was preceded in death by son, Tim Clephane and daughter, Sherri Sutton.

Dick was in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952, receiving an honorable discharge and rank of 1st Sargeant.

He received his Bachelor's degree from Purdue University.

While living in Greenwood, Dick was the President of Greenwood Little League and Lassie League from 1962 through 1977, was a past member and President of the Greenwood Community School board, and President of the Advisory Board of Central Nine Vocational School

He was the Greenwood City Building inspector and formulated the Greenwood City Building Code. He was awarded the Good Citizen award from the Greenwood Jaycee's in 1973, and the Greenwood Jaycee's Community Services Award for youth work in 1968.

He was president of the board for Cataract Lake Water Corporation.

Dick was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge #514 where he also earned his 33rd Degree. He was the National Commander of the Sojourners, and was a member of 24 chapters. He was also a member of Heroes of '76.

Dick was listed on the International Who's Who of Professionals.

Dick worked for Indiana University Hospital, IUPUI, and Riley Hospital for 33 years. After retirement, he was a consultant for Indiana University for 16 years.

A service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in Wil son St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel , 481 W. Main St., Greenwood. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Dick will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
