Robert Bayh Bourne

born June 28, 1929, died May 5, 2012. He graduated from Spencer High School as valedictorian at the age of 16. He married Nancy Anne Thomas on September 24, 1950; received a BA in chemistry from Indiana University in 1951 and an MBA in 1965 as a member of the first graduating class from the Indianapolis campus. He entered the military as a lieutenant in the infantry in September 1950, served in the Korean War, discharged in December 1952. He was employed by Eli Lilly from 1953 until the last day of 1987 as a chemist and quality control manager. Bob was an avid golfer who achieved four holes-in-one (two on the same hole in Lakeview, Georgia), a discerning collector of mysteries, and an excellent puzzle solver. He was a charter member of John Knox Presbyterian Church and was active for 20 years on the board of the Friends of the Speedway Library.

Bob is survived by son, Dan (Linda) Bourne; daughter, Jenny Bourne; sister, Ruth Bourne; and grandchildren, Austin and Jackson. Bob was a kind and supremely generous man who is loved and missed by his friends and family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10, 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan- Speedway . Funeral will be held on Friday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Speedway. In keeping with Bob's love of golf, these will be casual affairs. Please dress accordingly! Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Speedway Library or John Knox Presbyterian Church.
