Robert "Bob" Edwin Welty
Of Bloomington passed away at his home on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the age of 87.
Bob was born in Owen County on August 7, 1926 to the late Ray and Goldah (Howard) Welty. He graduated valedictorian of high school at the age of 15. Bob served in the Army during WWII for two years and then went on to get his BA in Business at Indiana University. He worked as the IU Printing Plant Manager for 9 years. In the 60's, he served on the Ellettsville Town Council as the clerk-treasurer. He and his family then moved to Indianapolis where he worked for the next 29 years spending most of those years as the Director of Planning and Development in the Dean's Office. Bob was a member of the American Legion, the Ellettsville Masonic Lodge #245 and The Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite. His favorite hobby was woodworking specializing in candle holders.
Bob's family would like to thank the many kind caregivers and friends who helped him through his illness with rheumatoid arthritis. Also, many thanks to those who brought a smile and a twinkle to his eyes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol (May) Welty; children, William R. Welty of CO, Mary L. Gilmore of FL and Jeffrey J. Welty of WA; 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
