Dr. Scott G. Jacklin

67, of Indianapolis, died suddenly on Monday, June 23, 2014. Scott, affectionately known as "Scotty" and "Dr. J," was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and brother-in law, uncle, and friend. Scott was born and raised in Indianapolis before graduating from North Central High School, Ball State and Indiana University School of Dentistry.

Scott was a deacon and long time member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Hillcrest Country Club and an avid golfer. He was a Lifetime Member of the Indiana Dental Society.

Scott married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Cheryl Ann Ball. Together they raised three children of whom he was extremely proud, traveled the country and the world, made lasting friendships that spanned decades, and spent time simply enjoying one another's company.

Scott retired in January 2013 after practicing dentistry on the north side of Indianapolis for 41 years. When he set out to become a dentist, his counselors told him he should consider an alternate career path because he was unlikely to graduate college. Scott believed in simplicity and hard work. Over the course of his career he established a small and well-respected private practice that he was excited to pass on to a fellow North Central graduate. In addition to running his dental practice, Scott was also a sports fan and regularly cheered on the North Central Panthers, Colts, Pacers, and IU Hoosiers.

At the time of his early passing, Scott was enjoying his retirement, golfing daily, splitting his time between Indiana and Florida, settling into his new home, planning long and relaxing trips, and doting over his three grandchildren. He was enjoying the retirement he dreamed of and spent decades preparing to enjoy.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice, Sr. and Theda Jacklin. He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Cheryl Ball Jacklin; children, Matt Jacklin of Westminster, CO, Kristine (Steve) Nagy of Carmel, IN; Bradley (Dustin Hergert) Jacklin of Blandensburg, MD; sister, Sandra Sandlewick; brother, Maurice, Jr. (Peg) Jacklin; grandchildren, Gretchen, Theo, and Patrick Nagy; and loving extended family.

Calling will be Friday in Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be Saturday, at Northminster Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Scott to Northminster Presbyterian Church or the IU School of Dentistry.
