Stephen L. Spaugh Obituary

Stephen L. Spaugh

64, joined his Father in heaven Saturday, June 29, 2013. He was born March 10, 1949 in Anderson, Indiana to Lyle and Mary Ellen Spaugh. He resided in Middletown and Nashville, Indiana.

Stephen was a member of the Madison Heights High School track, cross country and basketball teams graduating in 1967. He attended the University of Tennessee for two years and was a member of the track team. He then served in the United States Navy as a Vietnamese linguist from 1970-1974 before graduating with a bachelor degree in business administration at Ball State University and a master's in hospital administration from Indiana University.

Stephen began a career in long-term care in 1977 as the administrator of Carmel Care Center and as an owner of long-term care facilities (Middletown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rawlins House, Countryside Manor, Harbor Manor and Riverside Nursing Home) in central Indiana for the past 25 years. He was actively involved in several professional and civic organizations, serving as president of the Carmel Chamber of Commerce, member and one-time president of the Carmel Rotary Club, where he was a member for more than 10 years, president of the Carmel Board of Public works, president of the Indiana Health Care Association, regional vice president of the American Health Care Association and member of the Indiana Health Facilities Council for 20 years. Steve was recognized for his contributions to both his profession and the state of Indiana as a two-time recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash.

Stephen had many personal passions, including a love of family, music, the outdoors and Indiana sports. When he wasn't participating in a barbershop quartet or singing for the Geist Christian Church Choir, he loved spending time outdoors in Brown County in between watching Colts, Pacers and IU games. In the month of May, he was likely one of the first spotted in the stands with his family at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Pole Day.

Stephen is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Sandra (Couch) Spaugh; father, Lyle Spaugh (Claudette) of Indianapolis; sons, Kevin Spaugh of Anderson, Eric Sinzheimer of Middletown and Greg Sinzheimer (Mindy) of Aurora, IL; daughter Rebekah Sinzheimer Pajak (Daniel) of Chicago, IL; sisters, Pamela Huebschman (Denny) of Carmel and Barbara Barksdale (Roger) of New Palastine; grandchildren Eric II, Peyton, Sarah, Sean, Will, Sam and Isabel, nieces and nephews, and countless friends and family members.

The family will receive friends and loved ones Friday, July 05, 2013 from 2-8:00 pm at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory , 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, Indiana.

Services will be Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Spleth officiating.

Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown EMAS or the Middletown Fire Department.
