Thomas Joseph Carroll

71, Carmel, IN, was welcomed into heaven on September 15, 2013. Tom was born October 11, 1941 in Lafayette, IN to the late Robert and Elizabeth Carroll. He is a graduate of Lafayette Jeff High School and Purdue University with a degree in Industrial Management. At Purdue he was manager of the football team under Jack Mollenkopf, and a member of Phi Kappa Psi and Gimlet Club. After graduation, he worked for Northwest Chain and Sprocket in Portland, OR, Aeroquip in Jackson, MI, and Industrial Belting and Supply, Indianapolis, before co-founding Hoosier Rubber and Transmission Corp. While leading Hoosier Rubber, Tom won the Power Transmission Distributors Association (BTDA) Trailblazer Award and was recognized as a Top 10 Sales Person in USA by Purchasing Manufacturing Magazine. He lead Hoosier Rubber for 22 years, and then worked briefly for Guide Corporation. Tom then began his dream job establishing the Office of Engagement for Purdue University in Indianapolis for 10 years.

Tom was very active in the community serving many years as an usher for his church, a Rotary Club member, and served on numerous boards: Fairbanks Hospital, State Fair, ALS Association of Indianapolis, and Indiana Motorsports Association.

An avid and devoted supporter of Purdue, Tom was the past President of Purdue Association of Indianapolis, International Purdue Alumni Association, and Boiler Backers. Tom was an active member of the John Purdue Club, President's Council, and served on the selection committee for former Purdue President Martin Jischke.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Mesalam); children, Tracy (Mark) Nondorf, Julie McGinnis, Todd (Jamie) Carroll, and Megan Carroll. He was very proud of his 13 grandchildren, Victoria, Gabrielle, Luke, Danielle, Mark, and Zack Nondorf, Andy, Mallory, Max, and Ryan McGinnis and Sean, Lauren, and Jake Carroll. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia (Paul) Casler, Mary (Don) Bush; sister-in-law, Kathy Carroll, and his former wife, Judy Todd Carroll. Additionally, survivors include mother-in-law, Margie Mesalam; brother-in-law, Robert P. Mesalam II; sister-in-law, Lisa Mesalam, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Carroll Bassett; brother, Robert J. Carroll, and father-in-law, Robert P. Mesalam.

Family would like to thank all of his physicians, caregivers, and countless friends and neighbors for their love and support.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 in Leppert Mortuary Nora Chapel , 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis and Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 19 in St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis.
