William Paul Hopkins

89, of Colorado Springs, died May 4, 2014. He was born on May 21, 1924 in Indianapolis to John W. and Louise C. (Wolf) Hopkins. Bill grew up in Speedway and then moved to Indianapolis to attend Shortridge High School. After graduation he joined the Army and was part of the European Theater during WWII.

After the war, Bill attended Purdue University where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Upon graduation with a Mechanical Engineering Degree, Bill joined Western Electric where he was employed for more than 30 years. On December 28, 1949, he married Helen Whitehead of Evansville. They were married for 59 years. In retirement, Bill was an avid traveler, tennis player, and enthusiast of most sports. He especially enjoyed living close to his children and watching his grandchildren grow up. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Survivors include his daughters, Kyle (Mark Walsh) and Lynn (Hani Ahmad); and two grandchildren, Zach and Marlee Ahmad. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with a memorial to be held in Indianapolis at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the . Arrangements: Cappadona Funeral Home.
