Alfred John Perry of Pine Grove passed away on April 11, 2014 in Placerville from complications from a heart attack.
Al was born on October 19, 1920 in Mission San Jose, grew up in Niles where he attended Niles Elementary, and graduated from Washington High School in Fremont.
After graduating high school, World War II broke out and Al joined the Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded a Purple Heart. After the Army, Al joined the operating engineers union and operated heavy equipment (mostly cranes) until his retirement from Bigge Drayage.
Al is preceded in death by his parents Carmella and Louis Perry who emigrated from Portugal, 9 siblings, 2 sons Richard Lee Perry and Dennis Paul Perry, 1 grandson Christopher Clark, and his beloved and faithful pet Mitzi. Al leaves behind his children: Glenn Perry, and Sally Perry Clark; 2 daughters-in-law: Sandra Perry and Cathy Lee Perry; 6 grandchildren: Josh Perry, Jim Clark, Tom Clark, Russel Clark, Ryan Perry, and Jennifer Pimentel; and 6 great-grandchildren: Lauren Perry, Penelope Clark, Christopher Clark, Austin Pimentel, Bailey Pimentel, and Gage Perry.
Right up to the end of his life Al exercised and walked every day. Al enjoyed water skiing and dancing, and loved to travel and ride his quad. He was usually the center of attention at social gatherings and to the delight of those who knew him, he loved to spin a good yarn.
Al will be missed and loved by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held for Al on Monday, April 28, 1pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Inurnment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Al to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
