Longtime resident of Alameda
Beatriz moved to California from El Paso, Texas in the 1940's, finally settling in Alameda in 1965 with her husband and four children. She was an avid walker and loved to travel every inch of the island on an almost daily basis. She was a strong supporter of Alameda Special Olympics and gave out the Danny Riley Award (named for her son) at their annual awards ceremony. Beatriz was a fixture among Park Street shops and restaurants, and had especially strong ties to Mastic Senior Center.
Beatriz is survived by two children; Beatriz and William, and three grandchildren; Randall, Zoe and Shannon.
A memorial will be held for her in the chapel of the Castro Valley Neptune Society on Feb. 9, 2013 at 11am. Those wishing to make a charitable donation in her honor should do so to Alameda Special Olympics.
