Bernard Leech, 93, of Castro Valley, died on May 9, 2014.
Bernard was born on March 25, 1921 in Fruitport, MI to Martha and Emil Leech.
A World War II vet, Bernard served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. After his service, he attended Western Michigan University earning a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and a teaching credential. He began his teaching career in Michigan, then moved his family to Castro Valley, CA in 1957. Bernard taught school in the San Lorenzo Unified School District. Bernard was also a talented builder. He built several houses as a young man. After he retired from teaching, he successfully pursued real estate investing. He was never idle, loving to always have projects to keep him busy. Favorite hobbies were woodworking, gardening, writing, dancing, and art work.
Bernard will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by sons, Barry Leech; James Leech (Janeen); daughter, Merrily Adams(Francis); grandsons Kevin Adams (Angela); Brian Adams; Michael Leech (Theresa); David Leech (Justine); Daniel Leech; great- granddaughter, Nina Adams; niece, Darlene Johnson (Ron) and many other nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his love of family, beautiful smile, kindness, and industriousness.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Millicent Leech , his wife of 52 years,; his mother and father, Martha and Emil Leech; brother, Walter Leech; and sister, Laura Clark.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 15th at 1 pm, Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward.
