John was born and lived in Hayward his entire life. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1939. As a veteran of WWII he was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy as both a sailor and a U.S. Navy middleweight boxer. He worked for General Motors, both in the Oakland and Fremont plants, retiring at the age of 54 as a Foreman of the truck parts division.
John's passion was hunting. His stories of hunting the Livermore Hills and beyond will be remembered by all. He also loved golfing and worked part-time at the old Hayward Golf Course. Traveling and RV'ing with dear friends from the Hayward RV Club and the Cervantes Trailer Club of Sunnyvale filled his retirement years.
John lost his beloved wife Mary A. Cardoza of Crows Landing in 2008 after 62 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving daughter Diane Clouse, husband Doug, and son Larry Zaballos all from Livermore, grandchildren Julie Craine, husband Bryan of Lathrop, Eric Clouse, wife Jennifer of Rancho Murieta, David Clouse of Lathrop, and Jeff Zaballos of Livermore, Great-Grandchildren Lainey and Derek Clouse of Rancho Murieta and Maddison Craine of Lathrop.
John was past President of the Hayward Spanish Club, member of the Native Sons Eden Parlor 113, member of the Waterfront Breakfast Club and Gen. Motors Alumni Asso.
A visitation will be held at Holy Angels Funeral & Cremation Center, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, on Monday, Nov. 25 from 6-8:30 P.M. with a Vigil at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement Catholic Church, 750 Calhoun Street, Hayward, on Tuesday Nov. 26 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
