Resident of Fremont
Joe was born and raised in San Angelo, TX to Casimiero and Lucy Lopez Montemayor. He joined the Air Force at 19 years of age during the Korean War and served his time. He moved to Oakland for a brief stint, ending up in Fremont where he spent the rest of his life. He retired from General Motors after 22 years of service before becoming disabled. He is survived by his children: Larry of Modesto, Rick of Fremont, and Patricia of Fullerton; his step-sons: Bob Carretero, Sonny Chacon, and 1 other; his grandchildren: Ricky, Jesse, Lisa, Reuben, Gabriel, and 8 others; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved building things, as he was a perfectionist. Joe will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, from 4-8pm with a Chapel Service at 6pm, all at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Burial with a Military Honors Service will be held on Friday, January 25, 1pm at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, CA.
