Joseph C. Treml|
Oct. 28, 1928-Nov. 8, 2013
Resident of Castro Valley
Cherished father of Linda Hallam Treml (Alameda), Karla Fuller (Pleasanton) and Paula Treml (Castro Valley), proud grandfather of Richard Hallam, Dennis Hallam, David Hallam, Gregory Hallam, Erin Cummins, Kimberly Cummins and Erik Cummins, delighted great-grandfather of 13, and most recently great-great grandfather of one.
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Joe moved to Oakland when he was nine. He graduated from Oakland's Fremont High School in 1946 and after serving in the Army he worked as the store manager of Holmes Book Company in Oakland. During this time he also attended Chabot College and landed a job at Sandia Labs in Livermore where he worked as an electronics technician for 35 years. Joe's love of books, however, never waned and he loved to peruse new and used book stores whenever possible.
Joe always had an avid interest in physical fitness including running, lifting weights and yoga. He started walking, jogging and then running at the age of 49. He ran at Lake Chabot and some called him the "Man of the Lake." A founding member of the Golden Bay Runners, Joe ran in races of all distances and won trophies and medals in many of these races including the Honolulu Marathon and the Veterans run at Haywood Field in Eugene, Oregon, where he competed against master runners from all over the world.
Joe and his wife of 62 years, Corinne, were members of Bay-O-Vista Swim and Tennis Club in Castro Valley for over 30 years and enjoyed many friends and activities there. Besides Bay-O-Vista, Joe and Corinne enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and especially to Joe's roots in Alaska.
Joe will be missed by all who knew him as the kind, active and inspiring person that he was.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 23, 2013, 1:00PM at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary, 21228 Redwood Rd., Castro Valley CA.
