Oct. 17, 1924 - Jan. 25, 2014
Resident of San Lorenzo
Lee Ralph Cavanaugh, son of Leo and Marian Cavanaugh, passed away at home on Jan. 25, 2014. His loving wife Margaret and his stepchildren Carly Emmons, Cathy and Peter Noble survive. Lee was the most wonderful grandfather to Garin Noble, Jamie and Phil Collins.
His brother and sister-in-law Dave and Joan Cavanaugh also survive Lee as well as several nieces and nephew. His wife Leola, preceded him in death.
Lee was born and raised in Alameda, graduated from Alameda High, and attended UC Berkeley prior to serving in the Army in WWII. He was in the European Theater of War, the 13th Armed Division where he earned a Bronze Star. He was a partner with his brother Dave at Cavanaugh Motors, a very successful Chrylser dealership in Alameda for over 50 years. He was active in Alameda Kiwanis and other civic affairs during his very long professional career.
Lee was a life long music lover, who was ready to burst into song at any time. He had his own band, played the clarinet and belonged to the Musicians Union. He was a long time member of Castlewood Country Club, an avid sports fan, especially fond of the Oakland A's. He created many photo albums of his extensive travel and enjoyed following world affairs.
Family, friends, and all who encountered him will miss his generous heart and loving spirit. He always had a friendly word and spirited smile. The world has lost some of its brightness with Lee's passing.
We would like to thank our loving and kind neighbors and church members who helped so much during Lee's illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at his church on Feb. 15, 2014 at one o'clock. The service will be at the Lorenzo Community Church, 945 Paseo Grande, San Lorenzo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Oakland Children's Hospital, the Oakland SPCA or
