Linda Bowman Obituary
Linda Bowman
Sept. 21, 1938-May 16, 2014
Resident of Fremont
Linda Bowman passed away peacefully on 5/16/2014 with her family by her side. She was courageous, as always, in her short battle with Multiple Myeloma. Linda was 75 and is survived by her loving husband Dennis, her grateful children Eric and Robin, and her adoring grandchildren Lucy and Ruby.
Her parents were Everett and Vivian Mahlstedt of San Carlos and her in-laws were Bill and Florence Bowman of Hayward. She attended Carlmont High School in San Carlos and was a Mariner Scout. She graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Occupational Therapy and was a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She met her husband Dennis at a sorority/fraternity mixer. When he saw her in the greeting line he knew she was the one! They have been together ever since enjoying over 54 years of marriage. Not only raising two kids, she also became a teacher for over 22 years and later a consultant for the Fremont Unified school district. She primarily taught the orthopedically handicapped and with loving dedication, prepared them for life.
As a breast cancer survivor, she helped to raise substantial money for the Avon Breast Cancer Walkathon participating every year since her own recovery. Typical of her drive to succeed, she trained for months to be able to complete each year's grueling 39 mile hike over two days. Her determination was inspiring and humbling.
One of her greatest joys was entertaining. She loved to bring people together to share in incredible meals and music. Family and friends were always welcome. A typical Christmas party included a sit down dinner for 20+ people, every room was beautifully decorated and everyone would end up in the family room to sing Christmas carols while she beautifully played piano.
Linda and Dennis traveled the world extensively, covering 6 of the 7 continents. They always came back with fond memories of the people and the cultures, and wonderful stories to share with others.
Linda was a bundle of energy and always gave 100% of herself to others. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life party for friends and family will be held on June 8th in her honor.
