Jan. 7, 1969~March 21, 2009 Resident of Tracy Mark Dunakin was killed in the line of duty on March 21, 2009. He was a Sergeant of Police and an 18 year veteran of the Oakland Police Department assigned to the Traffic Division. Mark was born in Elyria, Ohio to David and Karen Dunakin. He was raised in Pleasanton and attended Foothill High School, graduating in 1987. He was both a member of the Foothill High School Marching Band and a varsity football player. He loved sports, including avidly following the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Ohio State Buckeyes. He also loved wearing, representing and living with his fellow officers. His family, his uniform and his honor were indelible and inseparable in his life. Mark was a true gentle giant, brimming with love, laughter and an indomitable sense of humor and enormous smile that will always be remembered. Mark was a wonderful and loving father, husband, son, big brother and friend to many. Rest in Peace "Dunny" WE LOVE YOU. Mark is survived by his wife of 16 years Angela Dunakin; his children Patrick (8), Sienna (13), and Anthony Dunakin (15) of Tracy; his parents David and Karen Dunakin of Yorba Linda, California; and his brother Christopher Dunakin and his wife Shannon of Aliso Viejo, California.
