NICOLA JANE PECK|
May 22, 1938 - February 1, 2013
Resident of Oakland
Nicola Jane Peck, aged seventy-four years, passed away peacefully with daughter Caroline and husband Brian at her side. She was weaned from life support five days after a drowning incident in the ocean off of Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Nicola had won her golf tournament by one stroke just two hours previously, so she went out a winner!
Nicola was born in Liverpool, England just prior to the outbreak of World War II. She was educated at Cheltenham Ladies College and obtained her nursing degree at St. Thomas' Hospital in London. With her best friend Hilary Hatrick, Nicola decided to experience the United States for a couple of years. They crossed from east to west driving their beloved "Ruthie," settling in San Francisco. As fate would have it, at a "Brit" party she met husband-to-be Brian; the rest, as they say, is history.
Nicola, through her calling as a Registered Nurse, worked for a couple of years until it was time to raise a family. As a full-time Mother for the next twelve years, Nicola did a wonderful job of nurturing and teaching their three children. They were packed off to Redwood Christian School in Castro Valley and San Leandro, where Caroline and Susan (Sue) graduated as valedictorian. Graham, like his Dad, was a late bloomer, but ended up with a Doctorate in History from Northwestern University, and teaches at St. Xavier University near Chicago. Sue is a 1990 graduate of West Point Military Academy, served her country in two foreign conflicts in the 1990's and is a bookkeeper at Providence Christian Academy near Atlanta. Caroline is board certified in Obstetrics/Gynecology and General Preventive Medicine/Public Health and is a civil servant in Sacramento at the California Department of Public Health. Nicola had a life-long love affair with her children and grandchildren and was the ROCK of the Peck household who made everything possible.
In 1978, Nicola began working for Alameda County at Fairmont Hospital in San Leandro, at first part-time and later full-time. Ironically, her last day there, in June 2003, was the same day the hospital closed as an Urgent Care Facility.
At the age of forty-eight, Nicola and Brian commenced SERIOUS traveling to many places around the world for the next twenty-six years. Both she and hubby were avid golfers as well. Nicola will be missed by her Lady Golfer friends due to her cheerful, friendly and caring personality.
Nicola is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Alec and Maureen Kirk Wilson; and is survived by her devoted husband Brian, daughters Caroline Peck of Sacramento; Sue Randrup of Lilburn, GA, her husband Andy and grandchildren Kevin and Joshua; and son Graham Peck of Oak Lawn, IL, his wife Rosemary and grandchildren Nicola and Sylvia. In England, Nicola is survived by her sister Anne Kiggell and family and her brother Alexander Kirk Wilson and family.
A Funeral Service, followed by a celebration of Nicola's life, will be held on Saturday, March 16th at 2 PM at St. Cuthbert's Episcopal Church (capacity of 100+) at 7932 Mountain Blvd, Oakland CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Nicola's name be made to
A private burial service at sea, with the scattering of Nicola's Ashes over the Pacific Ocean, will be held the following day near Half Moon Bay. Nicola's sister Anne will be the Celebrant.
