Bob was born in Kaysville, Utah and was the youngest of 7 children. His parents were Melvin and Rebecca Ashbaker. His sibling Dawayne, passed in the Korean War, Richard proceeded in death, Elias passed in Korean War, Dorothy Robbins lives in Ohio, Bonnie Kay Voigt lives in Layton, Utah and Ronald proceeded in death.
Bob went to Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah and at 17 joined the Marine Corp. He was a dedicated marine and loved working on helicopters. He went to Vietnam from 1966-1967. After Vietnam, he was stationed in Alameda at the Naval Air Station where he met his wife, Diane. Diane and Bob were married for 45 years and had 2 children. Steven Robert Ashbaker who is engaged to Emily Garcia, and Tiffany Kristine Ashbaker-Johnson who is married to Joe Johnson. Bob and Diane also raised their niece and nephew Jennie Macleod and Kenny Macleod married to Lucy Macleod. They have 6 Grandchildren and 1 more on the way. There is Chelsea, Courtney, and Ryan Ashbaker, Ava Ashbaker, Johnny Johnson-Ashbaker, and Kylee Macleod.
Bob and Diane belong to the NCCA Corvette club for the past 13 years and he was club President from 2008-2009. Bob has been working for Heat and Control in Hayward for the past 8 years and has made friends all over the world. Helping others was something he loved to do, and he always found time to help. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family.
The service for Bob will be Friday December 6th at 11:00am at chapel of the chimes located at 4499 Piedmont Avenue Oakland, CA 94611.
