Tom died peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Castro Valley on Saturday February 8, 2014 at the age of 83. Tom was born in Stockton, CA, grew up in Hayward, CA and graduated from Hayward High School in 1948. After serving in the U.S. Army, Tom enjoyed a 28 year career with the Castro Valley Fire Department. He achieved the rank of Assistant Fire Chief and retired in 1984. He was a lifetime member of the California State Firefighters Association and the International Association of Firefighters. He loved spending time with his five grandchildren and trips to Reno with his wife.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Pearl; devoted children Tom (Lori) Castro of Castro Valley, Tammy (Michael) Sakurada of Castro Valley, Susan (Donnie) Taylor of Castro Valley. Grandchildren Ryan (Lacie) Castro of San Ramon, Megan (Ross) Taylor-Bolin of Livermore, Christopher Taylor of Castro Valley, Jason (Maris) Castro of Houston, TX and Joshua Taylor of Castro Valley. He is also survived by his brothers Armand and Ross Castro as well as many nieces and nephews.
His generous, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on February 12 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Sorensen Chapel 1140 B Street in Hayward. Funeral Services to be held on Thursday February 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Sorensen Chapel . Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
