Thomas Sablan Payne, Sr. went home to be with Our Lord, on Sunday, May 25th at Castle Hospital in Kailua, Hawaii. He was 87.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances Ann (Peterson) Payne. He is also predeceased by his parents Patrick and Ignacia Payne; siblings Joseph Payne, Anna Carlson, and Delores Thacker.
He is survived by sons Glenn (Veronica) of Fremont, Tom Jr (Connie) of Tracy, daughter Deborah (Michael) of Hawaii, Richard (Shelley) of Fremont, and Wichian (Veng) Songponnopachon of Fremont; and by eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Juan (Terry) Payne of Sacramento, sisters Mary (Greg) Tenorio and Rose (Lester) Murer of Guam,
Thomas was born in Agana, Guam, and moved to Fremont, California, where he worked and raised his family. After the passing of his wife, he moved to Kaneohe, Hawaii to live with his daughter and her family.
Thomas retired as forklift mechanic from General Motors (UAW), and as a heavy equipment mechanic at PWC-SF Bay. He was also a Korean War Marine veteran. He loved working on cars, cooking, gardening, going to the casinos, and spending time with his family and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 28th at noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 40374 Fremont Blvd, in Fremont. Reception to follow in the Church's adjacent garden area.
