William Travis, Sr. age 80, died at Fruitvale Nursing Home in Oakland, California on Monday June 9, 2014 of natural causes.
William was born April 30, 1934 to the late Elizabeth Jefferson and John Travis of New Orleans Louisiana. He was a disabled veteran of the Air Force.
After 27 years of hard work and providing for his family, William retired from Mother's Cakes and Cookies in 1993. William loved his family and friends but what he enjoyed most was entertaining. His reputation and smooth dance moves led him to the nickname of "Hipsey."
William married Bobbie L. Johnson who remained his childhood sweet heart till death parted them. From that union 5 children were manifest, which the youngest Eldrich Omar preceded him in death.
William just recently celebrated his 80th birthday surrounded by loved ones and at some point he expressed to them he had fulfilled his life expectancy. Just being in the same house as 5 generations of family was enough for him. His heart was overjoyed, eyes watered and head held low as he rejoiced for those he loved and longed for those that preceded him in death.
William leaves to celebrate his loving memory wife Bobbie of 62 years, Four children; Lawrence Edward (Bertha), William Jr.(Annie), Carol Denise and Cheryl Diane (David) A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and Immediate family members and close friends that he loved as his own.
Services to be held 11:00 a.m. of June 13, 2004 at C P Bannon Funeral Home 6800 International Blvd, Oakland, California. Precession will follow to Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond, California. There will be a private repass for family and close friends at his home of 53 years in Oakland, California following the services.
