William Ward Allen was born in San Francisco on April 11, 1923. His parents were Louis & Louise Allen. He was a long time resident of Alameda, CA, where he attended Alameda High School which is where he met his beloved wife, Jacqueline M. Allen. Their romance & marriage lasted over 69 years. They were parents of five beloved children: Denise Smith (Chuck) of San Diego; John Allen (Dee) of Danville; Kathy Matter (Mark) of Chandler, AZ; Barbara Allen of Prineville, OR; and Michael Allen (Erin) of Dublin. He has 9 grandchildren: Robert, Tracey, Matthew, Damon, Erin, Kaitlin, Ashley, Michael Jr. & Cassidy. He has 6 great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Robbie Jr., Ryder, Saylor, Leo & Carter.
He was a decorated Navy carrier fighter pilot in the Pacific during WWII, where he served the nation proudly. William, also known as Bill, retired as Manager of Public Projects System, Engineering Dept. of the Southern Pacific Transportation Company after 40 years of service. He was a past Big SIR member & Director of SIRS, Branch #99, Castro Valley; a member of the USS Lexington Association and a member of the Tail Hook & Naval Aviation Museum Association. He was a former member of the American Railroad Engineering Association, the Roadmaster's Association, and the American Right-of-Way Association.
He enjoyed hunting & studying history as his hobbies, which included golf after his retirement from the SP. He enjoyed his family throughout his lifetime which included many nieces and nephews as well as all his many lifelong friends and co-workers.
There will be a public viewing between 6 & 8:30 p.m. with a vigil at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening Aug 28th at Holy Angels Funeral Center, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Friday Aug. 29th at Transfiguration Catholic Church 4000 E Castro Valley Blvd in Castro Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the in William's name.
