Dr. Harold Frank Doench Jr., 73, of Hilton Head Island, SC passed away April 8, 2014. He was born in Dayton, OH on November 12, 1940 and was the son of the late Thelma and Harold Doench. Hal graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, OH in 1959 and graduated in 1966 from the Ohio State University with a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery. He then went on to serve his country as a Captain in the United States Army from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam War. He then graduated with a degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from New York University and Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Hal practiced oral surgery in Kettering, OH for 37 years before retiring and moving to Hilton Head Island, SC in 2008. During his professional years, Hal traveled many times to Columbia, South America to perform charity cleft palate surgeries. He was a past president of the Dayton Dental Society and member of numerous professional organizations and charities. He is survived by his son Brian H. Doench (Alana) and grandson Cameron from Miami Beach, FL, daughter Meredith L. Doench of Dayton, OH, former spouse Mary M. Doench of Dayton, OH, fiancé Nancy H. Craver of Hilton Head Island, SC, and brother Thomas J. Doench of Sarasota, FL. A memorial service will be held Sunday April 13 at 3:00 P.M. at St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church.
