Alva Dale Lone II

Alva Dale Lone II, 67, of Lafayette, IN, died at 10:45 AM January 3, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born August 21, 1946, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Alva and Jane Walker Lone.

He served in the US Army, during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1967, receiving the Army Accommodation Medal. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964.

His first marriage was to Judith Clendenning who passed away in July of 2005. He then married Gretchen Kerr Fruits on June 23, 2007 in Lafayette. Al retired from Eli Lilly and Company in 2001 working in shipping and handling. After retirement he was bar manager for Ship 12 Navy Club, Lafayette.

Al enjoyed all sports, was a member of the Mulberry Conservation Club, especially enjoyed mushroom hunting with his close friend Chuck Irwin. Surviving are wife-Gretchen Fruits Lone, Lafayette, IN; son-Rodney Lone (Denise), Elkhart; stepdaughter-Callie Rogers, West Lafayette, stepdaughter-Dawn Fruits (Forest), Lafayette; stepson-William Fruits(Jennifer), Lafayette, stepson-Keith M. Fruits (Natalie), Lafayette; son-in-law-Randy Montgomery, Tucson, AZ; sister-Rita Lone, Roscommon, MI, sister-Mary Jane Dawson, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Jake Lone, Kaden Lone, Justin Fruits, Jordon Fruits, Josh Pettit, Audrey Montgomery, Abigail Fruits, Blake Fruits; nieces-Velita Lone, Vicky (Robert) Smitley, Lori Smiley; nephews-John Lone, Scot (Amy) Dawson, mother- and father-in-law-Harry & Carol Kerr, Lafayette.

Visitation will be 5-8PM Monday, January 6, 2014 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Funeral Service 10:00AM Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Burial will be at Fairhaven Cemetery, Mulberry. Preceded in death by stepdaughter Julia Fruits Montgomery.
