Arlene F. Thomas

Arlene Francis (McLaughlin) Thomas, 62, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:04 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital. Born May 11, 1952 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late William Raymond McLaughlin, Sr. and Francis R. (Jenkins) McLaughlin. She was a graduate of Southwestern High School and attended Purdue University.

Arlene married her high school sweetheart on June 6, 1960 in Lafayette and he survives. She was a member of Crestview United Brethren Church for over 20 years and then Wea Ridge Baptist Church. She was a stay at home mother and housewife. She enjoyed writing poetry, listening to country music, traveling, reading, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving with her husband are four children, Jason Lee Thomas (wife, Nichole) of Lancaster, CA, Jeremy Wayne Thomas, Brian Joe Thomas (wife, Jessica), and Joshua Paul Thomas all of Lafayette; a sister Mary Lou Palk (husband, Joseph) of Lafayette, TN and a brother Donald McLaughlin of Los Alamos, NM; and seven grandchildren, Leah and Aaron Thomas of Lancaster, CA, Brianna, Brittany, and Brandon Thomas and Jakob, and Jazmin Thomas all of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by a son Johnny James Thomas, three brothers and a sister.

Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday in the Hippensteel Chapel, with Rev. Dan Sager officiating. Burial to follow at Spring Vale Cemetery.
