Charles Calvin 'Chuck' Dill, 59
The Guest Book is expired.
Charles Calvin 'Chuck' Dill age 59, a well known farmer and swine producer of southwestern Tippecanoe County, died surrounded by his family, 8:20 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 24, 1954 in Lafayette to the late Chester W. Dill and Doris Dill who survives in Lafayette. He married his Sweetheart, Colleen P. Schilling in St. Ann Church, Lafayette, April 20, 1974 and she survives.
Chuck was proud to be raised on the family farm in Jackson Township and graduate from Southwestern High School with the class of 1972. Chuck attended the Purdue University Agricultural Winter Short Course in 1973 and may not have attended many classes. He was a farmer from birth and continued to farm and raise show pigs, till the end. Chuck had a keen knack for raising excellent quality show pigs and was always ready to share his knowledge and experience, whether you ask for it or not. He was involved with 4-H in Tippecanoe County for more than 34 years. He was a director, swine superintendent and also a 4-H Leader. He had been involved in the Young & Gard Show Pig Auction for over 30 years. His show pigs have won championships from the county levels to the state fair. The past several years, Chuck enjoyed working with his son-in-law 'Pokey' raising pigs, because he appreciated having someone he could tell what to do. Chuck was a member of the National Spotted Swine Association and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica.
Chuck was a legend. In this area, all you needed to say was Chuck and no one would ask, Chuck who? To hear the name Chuck would just make you smile…so many stories, but so little time. His quick smile, sharp wit, selflessness, fairness, his willingness to help, his ability to turn a conversation cross ways and his jokes, endeared him to everyone! He was a friend to everyone and the world has truly lost 'one of the good guys'.
Surviving along with his wife Colleen and mother Doris are: two daughters; Chrissy Suzette (Andy 'Pokey') Wise of rural West Point and Courtney Dawn Dill of Cincinnati, OH. His grandson, Jackson 'Stewie' Wise. Sister, Nancy (Stan) Thayer of rural Lafayette. In laws Don and Carolyn Schilling of Lafayette and brother in laws: Steve (Laraine) Schilling of Lafayette and Scott (Cheryl) Schilling of Claredon Hills, IL. Also surviving are an enormous group of people privileged to call Chuck their friend. He was preceded in death by his father, grandson Zacary and sister Bonnie Jean.
Chuck's family will greet guests, 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.
