Dean E. Long, 76, of rural Lafayette, died Thurs-Oct 10, 2013 at 8:55am, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital-Lafayette. He was born Sept 14, 1937 in Delphi, to the late Edward & Thelma Conwell Long. His marriage was to Margaret A. Allen in Monticello, on Jan 22, 1993, and she preceded him in death on Sept 17, 2001. He was a 1957 graduate of Buffalo High School, and a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in Germany. He worked for 34 years at ALCOA in Laf., in the Tub Mill, and was active with the union, A.B.G., where he was the sergeant of arms during their meetings. He also delivered the Journal & Courier Newspaper for many years in the Delphi and Monticello area. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Pittsburg, and as a young man, the Buffalo Christian Church. He belonged to the Lafayette Eagles and Moose Lodges. Was an avid golfer, and enjoyed NASCAR auto racing, and was a very big fan of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. racing team. He enjoyed Purdue University men's basket, and football, as well as the local high school football teams. He and his family liked to go camping, and enjoyed boating and water activities. Surviving: daughters-Deana & Loren Farrar of Lafayette, Lori & Mike Blume of Phoenix, AZ; stepdaughter-Donna & Dave Morrison of Battle Ground; stepson-Don & Connie Tolley of Lafayette; sisters-Myrna & Stanley Simonin of Buffalo, Brenda & Dick Crowe of Wolcott; brothers-Wayne & Sue Long of Carmel, Gary & Sue Long of Chambersburg, PA. 12 grandchildren/3 stepgrandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services: Friends may call Sunday from 12pm until his funeral at 2pm at Abbott Funeral Home-Delphi.
