Don Milton Chamberlain, 88

Don Milton Chamberlain, 88, formerly of Chalmers, IN, passed peacefully at his home in Clermont, FL, on Sunday, January 19, 2014, after a year-long struggle with the blood disorder, pancocytopenia.

He was born on August 6, 1925 to the late Ford and Reva (Marshall) Chamberlain. He attended Spring Dale Township School, graduating in 1943.

Don served his country in the Army Air Corps, 57th Bomb Wing, as a B-25 tail gunner in WWII. Upon his return from the war, he worked as a farmer and school bus driver.

Shortly thereafter, he married Rosemary Klinkhamer, who survives, on February 27, 1948. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.

As well as farming for 20 years, he also was a Standard Oil transport driver for 20 years, then a Terminal Operator in Indianapolis for five years, retiring in 1989.

His greatest hobby was flying his Cessna 170, having a grass landing strip on his farm ground in Chalmers.

In the fall of 2008, Don and Rosemary moved to Clermont, FL to live full-time with their daughter, Sandy, and her husband, Ty, where he became a member of Open Door Baptist Church. While in Florida, Don was a full-time "volunteer" at Matlack Tree Farm, owned by his son-in-law, until the fall of 2012.

Don is survived by his brother, Max (Mary) Chamberlain of Wolcott, IN, his daughter Sandy (Ty) Matlack of Clermont, FL, and son Don Edward (Cathy) Chamberlain of Chalmers, IN.

Also surviving are grandchildren Drew (Becca) Dolick of Indianapolis, IN; Danielle (Spencer) Moran of Denver, CO; Stacey (Rob) Young of Indianapolis, IN; Nicole Schroeder of Brookston, IN; Natasha (Johnny) Dangler of Lafayette, IN; and Devon Morgan of Lafayette, IN; as well as 9 great-grandchildren, with twins arriving in March 2014.

Don was preceded in death by his son, David Ross Chamberlain, in September of 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, January 25, 2014 with viewing to occur one hour prior to the funeral at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston, IN. Interment will be at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Brookston, IN, followed by a meal served at the Community Church in Chalmers, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Open Door Baptist Church, 17140 US Hwy 27, Clermont, FL 34711 or to the Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL, 32778.
