Gary Phillip Leighty, 77, of rural Delphi, died Thurs-Aug 15, 2013 at 7:40am at his daughter's home, after battling Parkinson's disease. He was born July 11, 1936 in Petersburg, IN, to the late Mynard & Bessie Evans Leighty. His marriage was to Freida M. Roach in Henderson, KY, on Mar 28, 1954, and she survives. He was a 1953 graduate of Petersburg High School, and graduated with a drafting degree from International Steel. He owned and operated P.L. & Associates, structural steel drafting business for over 40 years. He and his wife and family lived for many years in the Dayton area, moving to rural Delphi for the past 21 years. He was in the IN National Guard for 9 years. A member of the Valley View Baptist Church in Flora. Was very active in his church youth group as a leader, and mentoring many young people, and coaching them in baseball and basketball. He loved to fish, and play golf, and loved card games of all kinds. He was an avid Indiana University sports "FAN"! He dearly loved his wife and children, and all of his grand, and great grandchildren, many friends and neighbors. Surviving: wife-Freida M. Leighty of Delphi; daughter-Tammy & John Shirels of Flora; sons-Scott & Lori Leighty of Michigantown, Phil & Judy Leighty of Lafayette. 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Services: Friends may call from 2pm until his funeral at 5pm Saturday, August 17, at Faith Church, near Lafayette. Pastor's Bill Godby & Rob Green officiating.
